A Brief History of New Song Church
New Song church started when the Northern Illinois District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (NID of LCMS) issued a call to Pastor Dan Hawkins to be the church planter of the mission to the Fox Valley Villages in the spring of 2000. After several days of prayer and deliberation, Pastor Hawkins and his wife Alison, were convinced God was leading them to start New Song and Pastor Hawkins accepted the call.

Pastor Hawkins along with 9 other adults from his former church at St. Pauls Lutheran in Aurora began meetings in his living room for Bible study and getting the various ministry systems in place for the launch in the fall of 2000.

During the pre-launch phase, in March of 2000, pastor Hawkins visited 4000 homes in the immediate community getting a feel for the needs in the area and informing the residents of New Song coming to the community. During the pre-launch time, pastor visited and preached at various Lutheran churches in the circuit informing them of the new mission plant and generating their support.

On October first of 2000, New Song celebrated their first service at Arlene Welch Elementary School in Naperville, Illinois. There were about 80 people in attendance. The next week attendance dropped off to 40 people in attendance.

In the spring of 2002, New Song moved Homestead Elementary School in Aurora. A move that brought them much closer to their future permanent location on Haffenrichter Road and air conditioning in the summer. In the summer of 2003, New Song added a traditional worship service to their Sunday morning lineup. New Song is currently worshiping an average of 250 people on a typical Sunday.

On November 15, 2004 the Constitution and Bylaws of New Song Community Church were approved by the Board of Directors of the NID.

On March 6th of 2005, New Song chartered moving from mission status to an officially recognized congregation of the NID of LCMS.

New Song moved into its first phase ministry center in the summer of 2011. New Song now has a permanent home with a multi purpose sanctuary, classrooms, and a facility for a future Christian pre-school, and possibly a Christian day care.

New Song church has been blessed with a great team of lay leaders who are real, love the Lord and are passionate about making a difference in the lives of people. After looking at the way God has used one small group of nine adults in the spring of 2000 for the purpose of reaching others for Christ, we can say with great confidence that our best days are still to come! Come and be a part of the team.
